When in Rome

June 4th, 2015

Italy is going to be a much different pace than Dublin. Instead of one city, we are hoping to hit up six, with the same amount of time. Let’s see how well this works out.

We start in Rome, landing at about 1000. After hitting up the local tourist office, I intend to get pizza at Pizzarium (http://theromedigest.com/pizzarium/) followed by gelato at Campini (http://theromedigest.com/gelateria-del-teatro/). We then have a guided walking tour of several of the local landmarks, including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, the Forum, and others (http://www.viator.com/tours/Rome/Ancient-Rome-Half-Day-Walking-Tour/d511-3058ANCIENT). I actually prefer the tours because you get around the long tourist waiting lines.

After the tour we’ll have about two to three hours to explore any other monuments we missed, including the Spanish Steps, the Vatican Museum, the Pantheon, or Piazza Navona. I haven’t set up a specific location for dinner as of yet, but I’m sure it won’t be difficult to locate a nice Italian Restaurant. We will hopefully even have time for a wine tasting. After dinner we will be traveling to Portofino, near Genoa. If I recall correctly, it’s about an eight-hour drive, but it will be well worth it. Portofino will be covered in the next entry.
